The Falcon Foundation will host its annual Hall of Fame event Aug. 31 in the Connellsville Senior High School auditorium. The public is invited to attend the program which will begin at 6 p.m. The doors will open at 5:45 p.m. You should enter the building in front of the auditorium.

The following people will be honored this year: Ed Cope, James Duncan, Dr. Michael Grace, Lt. Colonel James Law, Kyle Martin, Jamie McPoyle, John Nedrow, Dr. Dan Shelley, Dr. Daniel Poole and William Swink.

Mobile office hours

Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) announced his staff will hold mobile office hours at various locations throughout Pennsylvania’s 14th Congressional District next month to offer increased assistance to constituents experiencing problems with a federal agency.

During these mobile office sessions, constituents can receive help with Social Security and Medicare issues, federal grant funding, passports and visas, immigration and naturalization services, veterans’ benefits, and the IRS.

September’s schedule is outlined below:

• Fayette County: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 1, Fayette County Courthouse, 61 E. Main St. Uniontown

• Connellsville: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sept. 19, Connellsville Municipal Building, 110 N. Arch St. Connellsville

Breakfast fundraiser

Bullskin Township Senior Center will hold a breakfast fundraiser 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 2. The center is located at 53 Medsger Road, Connellsville. Breakfast includes pancakes (buckwheat and regular), scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits with sausage gravy, ham potatoes, coffee, tea, and juice. Bake sale will be held during breakfast. Cost for the breakfast is $10 for adults 12 and older, $5 for children over 6 and children 6 and younger are free.

Whiskey Rebels

Park staff and the Friendship Hill Association invite the public to visit Albert Gallatin’s home to commemorate the Whiskey Rebellion. On Sept. 2 and 3, programs and displays will be offered at Friendship Hill National Historic Site. Programs include blacksmithing, wood carving, pottery, quilting and other educational displays. On Saturday, the Westmoreland Archaeological Club will display their collection.

Programs include a visit by Albert Gallatin, portrayed by Ron Duquette. Learn about Gallatin’s recent return to America after serving in France as our Ambassador. Federal troops, park staff and volunteers in costume, will present a program on the artillery brought over the mountains to suppress the rebellion. Cannon talks and firing demonstrations are each day at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m.

In September, the Gallatin house will host a temporary exhibit on Lafayette. The exhibit highlights the Frenchman’s military career and later historic travel to the United States in 1824 and 1825. From May 27 to May 28, 1825, Gallatin played host to Lafayette’s visit to Friendship Hill.

Inaugural Sojourn set Sept. 4

The Jamie McPoyle Foundation will sponsor the inaugural Connellsville Spiritual Sojourn 9 a.m. Sept. 4. Registration will begin 7:30 a.m. The event will begin and end at Austin Park.

Unit meeting

James E. Zundell Unit 446 American Legion Auxiliary, Mt. Pleasant, will meet 6 p.m. Sept. 5. Order food from Post kitchen. Please pay dues promptly.

September meeting

The next meeting of the Fayette County HealthChoices Advisory Board is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 6 in the conference room 1 (first floor) at the Fayette County Behavioral Health Administration Office, 215 Jacob Murphy Lane, Uniontown. The meeting is open to the public.

Basket tickets

The Penn Highlands Auxiliary will be sponsoring a basket sale in the lobby of the hospital starting 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 5. The sales will continue weekdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sept. 15. Tickets are $2, or eight for $5, or 20 for $10.

Hospital Club meets

The Highlands Hospital Club of Connellsville will meet 1:15 p.m. Sept. 6 in the downstairs hospital cafeteria. Anyone that would like to join to support the hospital is welcome.

Cafe to open

Café at Connellsville Church of God, 126 Breakneck Ave., Connellsville, resumes 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6. It will be open Wednesdays. Meal, drink and dessert will be served. Cost is $7 for those ages 13 and older; $2 for those ages 3 to 12.

Retirees meet

Uniontown Hospital retirees, semi-retired employees, or former employees will meet 11 a.m. Sept. 7 at Ye Olde Inn, 106 Monarch Road, Dunbar. Class celebrates reunion

The Mt. Pleasant Area Class of 1968 will celebrate its 55th reunion Sept. 8. The event will be held at Bell’s Banquet/The Barn, with a cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing to the “oldies.” Any questions, please call 724-396-2224.

All 1964 Connellsville Joint Senior High graduates are invited to an annual get together at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House on Route 119 in South Greensburg. Croquet tournament set

The third annual Connellsville Parks & Recreation Board’s Croquet Tournament is scheduled noon Sept. 9 at East Park. The 21-and-older event will operate on a double-elimination format. Schedules yard sale

The South Connellsville fall community yard sales will be 8 a.m. Sept. 9. Borough residents can have their address added to the seller list. To submit an address for free, go to the borough building or call 724-628-4860 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The list will be ready for pick up the week of the sale.

Fall cleanup is scheduled Sept. 13 and items should be put out the night before. The borough has posted a list of items that will not be accept on the borough’s Facebook page and posted at the front of the borough building.

Cabbage roll dinner planned

A cabbage roll dinner and bake sale will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 at Leisenring Presbyterian Church, 1004 Church St., Leisenr5ing. Cost for the cabbage roll dinner is $11. It is eat in or take out.

The CJHS Class of ’66 75th birthday celebration on Sept. 30 has grown in numbers. Group provides music

Common Ground Ministries, a country gospel group will lead the worship at Normalville Church at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 10. The church is located 3270 Springfield Pike, Normalville.

The Greater Uniontown Chorale will begin practicing for their fall

concerts on Monday, September 11 at 7 PM at the Trinity United

Presbyterian Church, corner of Morgantown and Fayette Streets in

Uniontown. Practices go until 9 PM. The music to be performed is “City

of Hope: A Cantata for Christmas” by Tom Fettke and Jay Rouse. Those

interested in joining the Chorale are urged to attend the practice.

There will be four performances. Auditions are not required: All you

need is a love of chorale singing and a desire to be a part of the

United States Army Reunion

The annual Reunion for Veterans of the 429th Engineer Battalion will be Sunday September 10th at the Mill Run Recreation field in Mill Run. Sign in starts at 11:30 followed by a short program @ 12:30 and a catered lunch @ 1300. This year we will give a commemorative coin to the first fifty Veterans to sign in. The former 429th Engineer Battalion was located in Connellsville, Uniontown, Greensburg, Belle Vernon, and Washington, Pa. The next date for Indian Head Church of God free drive through soup distribution is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13.

Connellsville Historical Society September Meeting

The Connellsville Historical Society’s September Meeting will be held on September 13, 2023, at the Crawford Cabin Site at 6:00 pm. The location is 7th Street and the Youghiogheny River. The guest speaker will be Dauna Prinkey, and her subject will be “Growing Up Downtown”. It will be a very enjoyable evening because Dauna want to turn back the clock to the 1950”s when downtown Connellsville was vibrant and bustling. So grab hold of some of your memories of downtown to share with others as we “Turn Back Time”.

Healing service set in Dawson

A healing service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Philip G. Cochran Memorial United Methodist Church, Griscom Street, Dawson.

Guest speaker will be Pastor Sherry Evans, an evangelist who specializes in healing and inspiration, from the Jefferson Covenant Church in Jefferson, Ohio.

Benefit ride

The American Legion Riders Chapter 941, Donegal, is chairing a benefit ride for the Fayette Veteran Billeting on Sept. 16.

This ride will assist in providing local homeless veterans a home until they are able to return to work and a normal lifestyle.

This home is located at 88 Lincoln St., Uniontown,. At the present time, this facility services men only. However, a home for local homeless women veterans is in the organizational process.

Donations will be used in a gift auction with proceeds going totally to the benefit.

Vendor and craft fair

A vendor and craft fair will be held noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 16 at the South Connellsville Volunteer Fire Company. There will be a car show along with local crafters and vendors, cake wheel, gift auction and Grille 37 will be open. Also, bring the kids to meet special guest, Somkey the Bear.

Pancake breakfast

Pancakes and buckwheat cakes with sausage b reakfast will be served 7 to 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17 at St. Rita Bucci Hall in Connellsville. It’s an all the cakes you can eat event. The event is sponsored by the St. Rita’s Holy Name Society. Cost is $7 for adults and $2 for children 12 years and younger.

Ladies Lodge meets

The Sons and Daughters of Italy Ladies Lodge No. 1685 of Connellsville will meet at New York Pizza 6 p.m. Sept. 19. Upcoming events will be discussed.

Ladies Day Bash

The Mountain Laurel Chamber of Commerce (MLCC) along with King Legal Group LLC and BHHS The Preferred Realty Josh Crowe Team are EXCITED to announce the 10th Annual Ladies Day Bash, which is set to take place Sept. 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. (doors open at noon) at the Donegal Event Center located at 113 Community Center Drive in Jones Mills.

A community environmentalprogram partially sponsored by the Fayette County Conservation District and the Pennsylvana Department of Environmental Protection is sponsoring home and garden workshops Sept. 28 at the Fayette County Recycling Convenience Center. Backyard composting will be held 6 to 7p.m. And watersheds and rain barrels will be held 7 to 8p.m. Registration is required. PRC’s environmental educator Emily Stein will present the program. Running Bear at the Rocks planned

The Running Bear at the Rocks 5K Run/Walk will be held 9 a.m. Sept. 30. Cost is $25 for early registration and $35 after Sept. 1. Registration includes a T-shirt, which is not guaranteed with a late registration.

Race day registration will begin at 7 a.m. and the race will start at 9 a.m.

There will be a gift auction, music and food truck. Proceeds go to the Bear Rocks Community Club for building and ground repairs.

Fall yard sale planned

in Connellsville

The Greater Connellsville Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its seventh annual Community Fall Sale beginning 8 a.m. Sept. 30. Rain date is Oct. 7. A $5 registration fee includes addition to the master address list, house sign, balloons and advertising. For $10, sellers can set up at East Side Fire Station on North Arch Street.

Forms and registration fees are due Sept. 27 to ensure addition to the master address list.

Car show, fall festival set

New Haven Hose Co. will present its first annual car show 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 1 during the New Haven Hose Fall Festival at 123 S. Seventh St., Connellsville. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. and there is a $10 fee.

There will be vendors, food, drinks, awards and music by Metro.

The Fall Fest will be held Sept. 29 through Oct. 1.

Fall ride

Somerset Trust Company will hold its sixth annual fall bicycle ride on the Yough River Trail starting at 1 p.m. Oct. 14. Rain date is Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. Register by Sept. 25 to receive a free t-shirt. Cost is free but bring a monetary donation of any amount to benefit the Heart to Hope Telethon.

The trip starts at the train station at 904 W. Crfawford Asve., Connellsvilel and hyeads towrd Ohiopyle for 7.5 miles. Somerset Trust Company will provide a baggedlunchy.

SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS SIGN UP FOR MOUNT PLEASANT AND SCOTTDALE AREAS

The Salvation Army Christmas Sign Up for adults and families in the Mount Pleasant and Scottdale areas will be on Saturday, October 7 and Saturday, October 21, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church (Town Clock Church), corner of Main Street and College Avenue, Mount Pleasant.

Southwest (Hecla) and Norvelt areas sign up will be held Thursday, October 12, from 1-3 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. at the Hecla Community Church.

Bingo planned

Connellsville Senior Center will hold bingo every Tuesday at 1 p.m. Admission is $10 for 10 games.

Pasta night

Every third Thursday of the month from 4 to 6 p.m. is pasta night at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 201 Lincoln Ave., Connellsville. The dinner is free to all that come and eat in. Take outs are $5.

Hospitality hour

The Albright United Methodist Church hospitality committee has a social time with beverages (coffee, tea, etc.) before church, across the hall from the sanctuary. Come and enjoy the time together every Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Compassionate Friends meet

The Philip Cochran Memorial United Methodist Church in Dawson hosts regular meetings of The Compassionate Friends organization at 6:30 the second Monday of each month. The Compassionate Friends is a self-help organization offering friendship, understanding and hope to bereaved families that have experienced the loss of a child. New members are always welcomed. Please enter the Howell Street (ramp) entrance to the church.

Volunteers needed at Geyer theater

The Geyer Performing Arts Center is seeking volunteers to serve as ushers, candy counter clerks, ticket takers and other tasks. For information, email [email protected].

Word of Life clubs

Millertown Community Church is inviting all children ages 3 years old through sixth grade to its Wednesday night Word of Life clubs. There will be singing, game time, lesson time, snacks and more. The clubs meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. For information, email [email protected] or call 724-455-2939.

There is also a Bible study for adults currently in the Book of James which meets from 7 to 8 p.m.

Christian Church of Connellsville, 212 S. Pittsburgh St., will hold a free community lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday. Everyone is welcome. For more information, call 724-628-3802.

Helping Hands Pantry

Dawson Baptist Church and Dawson Volunteer Fire Department installed a Helping Hands Pantry on the fire department property.

In the pantry is nonperishable food products donated by members of the church and fire department. Anyone in needed is encouraged to take what is needed.

Work from Home with Dom Care

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging’s Domiciliary Care Program is seeking individuals to open their homes to become a Dom Care provider in Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties.

Dom Care is a unique program through the Area Agency on Aging that may offer job seekers a full-time, work-from-home position with monthly compensation.

The 2023 monthly stipend rate for a Dom Care provider is $1270.96 per individual. Providers may become certified through the Area Agency on Aging to house up to three individuals in their home. Anyone who has a caring heart and the desire to help others in need by opening their home should contact the Agency for more information. Dom Care is a community living, family style, housing program. Dom Care Providers open their homes to people aged 18 and older who cannot live independently due to physical, mental, or age-related impairments.

Dom Care Providers are responsible for transportation to and from appointments, set up/ supervision of medications, laundry, preparation of healthy meals, and making sure individuals needs are met.

Individuals that utilize the Dom Care program have often stated that they feel like part of the family and have even attended vacations with the Dom Care Providers.

Bingo held

Friday night bingo at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Route 981, Trauger, is held the second Friday of every month. There are now two jackpots, two quickies, and bigger payouts if attendance is met. Doors open at 4 p.m., and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. with the Early Bird. Cost is $26 for the first set of cards. Rummage buildings

Fairview Church of God rummage buildings are open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday, weather permitting. The church is located on Route 982 between Laurelville and Kecksburg.

Homework Helpers

Were you surprised by your student’s most recent report card? Could their grades use some improvement? Mt. Pleasant Public Library, 120 S. Church St., offers extra support for students, every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. through the Homework Helpers program. There are state-certified teachers available for all grade levels. Students bring homework, a project, or research that needs completed or improved and someone at the library can assist. Thisis a free program! Alzheimer’s Support Group forms

An Alzheimer’s support group, open to everyone who may be caring for someone suffering from Alzheimer’s and memory loss related disease, meets 7 p.m. the first Monday of every month at the Reunion Presbyterian Church social hall, 769 W. Brooms are back

The Bullskin Township Lions Brooms are back in stock at the Dunbar Township Tax Office, located at 171 Hi Way Supply Road, Dunbar. The selection includes large and medium kitchen brooms with bamboo, angle and wisk brooms, Soft and hard bristle push brooms, car wash brooms and kid’s brooms are available. These brooms are made in the United States. All monies generated are used for local projects. Fayette County Recorder of Deeds Jon Mariatta said Fayette County Property transfers are available online at the county website at Fayettecountypa.org. Go to government, elected officials and select Recorder of Deeds. A tab for property transfers will be listed.

Blessing box

Tyrone Presbyterian Church, 402 Jimtown Road, Dawson, recently installed a Blessings Box behind the church building, next to the pavilion. In the box are nonperishable food products donated by members of Tyrone Presbyterian Church and Boy Scout Troop 150. If you are in need, we encourage you to take what you need. If your blessings are abundant, please consider giving what you can.

CASA collecting stuffed animals

CASA of Fayette County is collecting stuffed animals for children. Stuffed animals are given to a child during permanency hearings to help them keep calm. Donations of teddy bears and stuffed can be dropped off at the CASA office at 39 S. Beeson Blvd., Uniontown. For information, contact CASA at 724-220-6179.

Cookbooks available

The Carpathian Cookery cookbook, has entered its 21st printing, having sold over 20,000 copies, is available for sale. This cookbook was requested by the Library of Congress to be in their ethnic cooking collection. The 330-page cookbook has a new look and features a protective plastic cover. The book includes sections on Christmas and Easter customs and recipes, traditional Rusyn and Slavic foods, other ethnic dishes, and many other tried-and-true recipes of St. John’s parishioners. There is a variety of paska bread and kolachi (filled roll) recipes, as well as meatless dishes and Lenten recipes, suitable for the Great Fast, as well as the Pre-Christmas Fast. The cost of the cookbook is $14 plus $4 postage and handling ($19). The Compassionate Friends

The Laurel Mountain Chapter of The Compassionate Friends meet at the Cochran Memorial UMC in Dawson, the Second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m.

The organization was founded in England when a Pastor discovered two grieving families who had lost children helped each other even more than he could.

In 1978 the organization was established in this country, spread nationwide and can be found online. The group mission is, “ No one need walk alone,” and offers support for parents, grandparents and siblings who have lost a child of any age.

Work from Home with Dom Care

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Area Agency on Aging’s Domiciliary Care Program (Dom Care) is seeking individuals to open their homes to become a Dom Care provider in Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties.

Dom Care is a unique program through the Area Agency on Aging that may offer job seekers a full-time, work-from-home position with monthly compensation.

The 2023 monthly stipend rate for a Dom Care provider is $1270.96 per individual. Providers may become certified through the Area Agency on Aging to house up to three individuals in their home. Anyone who has a caring heart and the desire to help others in need by opening their home should contact the Agency for more information. Dom Care is a community living, family style, housing program. Dom Care Providers open their homes to people aged 18 and older who cannot live independently due to physical, mental, or age-related impairments.

Dom Care Providers are responsible for transportation to and from appointments, set up/ supervision of medications, laundry, preparation of healthy meals, and making sure individuals needs are met.

Individuals that utilize the Dom Care program have often stated that they feel like part of the family and have even attended vacations with the Dom Care Providers.
